Regulatory framework
Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) is becoming a contractual and regulatory requirement: CSRD, eco-design, key-account requests and environmental labelling.
Upstream data (emission factors for materials, transport, supplier processes) is the weakest link: scattered, unharmonized and rarely updated.
What the buyer must require
Evidence needs to be verifiable, dated and tied to a specific reference. A generic statement isn't enough.
- PCF data or emission factors per purchased component (kg CO₂e).
- Documented methodology (GHG Protocol, ISO 14067, PEF…).
- Explicit upstream scope 3 boundary per reference.
- Annual update or update on every process/site change.
Manage compliance over time
Suplylot's PCF module collects carbon data via a supplier questionnaire, consolidates it by finished product and flags coverage gaps before PCF publication.
- Prioritize the highest carbon-contributing components.
- Run annual refresh campaigns on the strategic panel.
- Keep a history of versions to track supplier progress.
