Regulatory framework
The REACH regulation (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) governs the manufacture, import and use of chemical substances in the European Union. For an industrial buyer, REACH is not a purely "chemistry" topic: it is a documentary obligation on every material received, composition, substances of very high concern (SVHC), safety data sheets and communication along the chain.
Without a consolidated register, quality teams discover REACH gaps at audit or goods-receipt time, when it is too late to substitute or block a batch.
What the buyer must require
Evidence needs to be verifiable, dated and tied to a specific reference. A generic statement isn't enough.
- REACH compliance declaration per material reference, with a verified SVHC list.
- Compliant SDS, in the required language, dated less than three years ago.
- Substance inventory (CAS numbers, concentrations) provided on request or via the portal.
- Proof of downstream communication in case of a new SVHC (> 0.1%).
- Annual renewal campaign on production-critical materials.
Manage compliance over time
Suplylot industrializes REACH collection: the supplier completes the dedicated questionnaire, uploads documents and receives automatic reminders until completion. Material scores feed into the purchasing decision and goods-receipt release.
- Link each material reference to its REACH file and campaign history.
- Flag expired SDS or missing declarations before ordering.
- Prioritize single-source suppliers on materials with high SVHC exposure.
